Prelude – Give Me a Clean Heart

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.”  Ps. 51: 10

Welcome and Opening Prayer

Our God is Light, and in God there is no darkness. Light of Christ, Shine on our paths.

Chase away all darkness and lead us to the heart of God.  Amen.

The Call to Contemplation:  The Light of the World is Jesus

a quiet moment as we all pause and prepare for worship

The Call to Worship…

P:  We have gathered to celebrate our God. In these moments, worship is of first

importance. Be still… wait for the Lord; seek Him and listen for His Voice.

C: Together we begin yet another season of self-examination.  Tonight, and through  these next 40 days, we will nurture and sustain an intentional and prayerful walk    with our God.

P: This is a time for striving to maintain daily spiritual disciplines. Let our hearts take at

courage, as we all settle, quietly, to wait for the Lord.  He knows us and is calling each    of us by name!

C:   We hear You, O Lord, and what shall we do?

P:   Let us “be still and know that God is with us!” And what would God have us to do?

C:  As God’s people, we are to do what is right, seek justice for all, and walk

humbly with our God and one another.  Hallelujah, Hallelujah, and Amen.

A Musical Moment of Reflection – Hymn: “Just as I Am”

The Imposition of the Ashes

A Musical Moment of Reflection – Hymn:  “Change My Heart Oh God”

Change my heart oh God / Make it ever true / Change my heart oh God / May I be like You

You are the potter / I am the clay / Mold me and make me / This is what I pray

Closing:  Tonight we begin anew… an intentional forty days of faith, walking with God and with one another.   In our worship as in all gatherings, we seek to discover God in new and challenging ways.   For some it will be a time of re-awakening, while others will discover for the first time just “Who God is” and “Who God is to be in our lives.”   Whatever the opportunity, know that none of us are alone in the journey.  May God’s Peace richly bless us, as we all wrestle with God’s Call for Transformation.  Thanks again for taking time to be here tonight.  Go in God’s Peace.  Good Night and see Sunday morning!
