Ashes for Ash Wednesday are available in the mail box located outside Fellowship Hall
Why is Ash Wednesday celebrated?
Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent. It is an important day in the Christian calendar as it marks the first day of fasting, repentance, prayer and self-control that will be required during Lent.
How can I participate at home?
Despite our isolation during this time of pandemic, you can still observe the start of Lent by having yourself or loved-one trace the outline of a cross upon your forehead during our Ash Wednesday service. To facilitate this process, the Diaconate of First Church has placed individually packaged containers holding enough palm ash for several anointments.
Where may I find Palm Ash?
The Diaconate produced packets for distribution to the congregation. Within each small round jar is a mixture of palm-ash and mineral oil, including ash from previous Palm Sundays at First Church. Packets are located in the mailbox outside of Fellowship Hall and in the Church Office. Each packet should be enough for at least two people.
