“Lust”
by Rev. Fred Meade
Sermon Summary:
Pastor Fred is continuing with his series of sermons on the Seven Deadly Sins. Today he spoke about “Lust.”
The reading of John 4:7-19 tells the story of Jesus’ meeting with the Samaritan woman at the well. This woman had been married many times and was currently living with another man. Most Jews would have shunned her, but Jesus took the opportunity to teach someone else. He offered her the Living Water which quenches thirst forever. Without condemnation he offered her a new way of living.
Lust is an attitude of both the heart and the mind. It becomes sinful when we don’t see what happens in its aftermath. While love is giving and caring, lust is taking and selfish.
We should examine ourselves in the context of what love is and ask “Am I truly loving God, myself, and those I’m committed to love?” Remember that when we give up control sin is ready to step in.
