During the third week of Advent we light the candle of Joy.
When the people of Early Israel were going through a time of uncertainty and unrest the prophet Nehemiah reminded them that the joy of the Lord was their strength. This Christmas Season as we reflect on these words let us remind ourselves to take courage and to hold on to joy even in the middle of our trials.
This morning as we light the Candle of Joy, we pray that everyone can pause their troubles for a while and allow God’s joy to fill their hearts and minds. May we also remember that joy is not uncommon because the new-born babe in a manger brought much joy to all of heaven, to His parents, to the shepherds, to the wise men, to the innkeepers and even to the animals that were present there. Therefore, let God arise and let his joy fill this sanctuary! Amen
