05 November 2024

Dear Members and Friends,

As 2024 draws to a close, a new year begins. As we start to plan for the coming year, we once again consider the importance of our financial commitment to First Church.

One definition of stewardship is the responsible overseeing and protection of something considered worth caring for and preserving. Each of us has this responsibility in our relationship as faithful Stewards of our church. First Church plays a significant role in my life, and I consider it worth caring for and preserving, as I hope you also do. Just as its members have supported and maintained the church for the past 312 years, we must ensure that it continues for those who follow us.

Our church depends on the support of each one of us with our gifts of Stewardship: time, talent, and treasure. Everyone can contribute in some way, and so many of you have lent your time and talent throughout the year to First Church. Thank you!

Those first two pillars of Stewardship are vital, but the church also needs your financial support to carry out its ministry. I am asking you to consider making a Pledge for the coming year. If you regularly contribute during the Offertory but do not Pledge, I humbly suggest you do so. When you return your pledge card, the financial team can plan more accurately for the year ahead.

Let us work together to make our church shine even brighter as a welcoming beacon to all. You are the light of the world!

Your pledge card for 2025 will be available at the end of November. Please fill it out and return it by placing it in the offering plate during service or mailing it to the church office. We would like to have all pledges returned by January 05, 2025, so the budget can be ready for our Annual Meeting.

With many thanks and blessings to all,

Jane Hodge

PLEDGING FAQs

What is a pledge?

A pledge is your personal commitment to make a financial gift that supports the ministries and mission of the church and the coming year. The First Church believes annual pledging is a statement of thanksgiving and part of a spiritual practice of generosity. By pledging, you rededicate your love and support for First Church in Pembroke.

Why is pledging important?

Annual pledges support everything we do, paying clergy and staff, supporting our outreach ministries fellowship, spiritual nurture, music, etc. Annual pledges are the financial foundation of our church. The single most important source of funding for our ministries and missions comes from pledges. They represent over 2/3 of the church s annual income.

How will my pledge be used?

The congregation creates and votes on an annual budget based on the income from pledges and other revenue sources. First, we encourage all members of FCIP to participate in the process. The church creates an annual budget that makes financing our church operations easy to understand. It shows how your money is used to support the church. We at First Church in Pembroke believe that it is essential to be transparent in our budget process and all financial matters.

Who can make a pledge?

You! Everyone is welcome to share in the spirit of generosity at First Church in Pembroke. Our community members give a variety of reasons. As a congregation, we view pledges as an important spiritual practice, encouraging us to grow intentionally in faith and generosity in every part of our lives. It is because of the annual pledging and other generous support from our parishioners that our church lives up to its mission.

Is there a right pledge amount?

You are not the only person who wonders if there is a right amount to give. Every pledge, no matter the size of your gift, is valued at FCIP! It also helps the church budget more effectively. First Church invites you to prayerfully reflect on how much you feel you can give; no pledge is too small.

Let us all work together to make our Church the beacon to the Pembroke Community. Thank you for your continued support of First Church! Let us make our Church Shine to all!
