15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge
The core narrative of this sermon focuses on the transition of the Israelite people from a generation defined by fear-based inertia to one defined by committed action. Forty years prior, the Israelites had aborted their mission because they chose to focus on the “giants” in the territory rather than the guidance of God. In this account, a new generation faces the Jordan River at its most dangerous flood stage. Rather than retreating, the people engage in “consecration” – defined as the purification and separation of themselves for a specific, holy purpose. By following the Ark of the Covenant, they successfully navigate the impossible crossing. The message posits that “salvation” (deliverance from the past) is merely the entry point; the true objective is the ongoing pursuit of a guiding presence into “uncharted” areas to claim a future that has already been promised.
