December 28, 2023, marked the 251st Anniversary of the signing of the Pembroke Resolves. On this day in 1772, a group of 5 individuals signed a petition known henceforth as the "Pembroke Resolves" at the First Church in Pembroke, a document that contained aggressive language against the British treatment of the Colonies and the first actual reference to possible separation from England.

Prayer for the Pembroke Resolve

Our Great and Mighty God,

As we gather here this evening, we want to take this opportunity to thank you for your goodness, your mercy, and your love. Father, we also thank you for being the sustainer and arbiter of our lives. We gather in peace and remain united as residents and friends of the town of Pembroke. May our rich history and our willingness to always embrace peace be the emblem and foundation of our love. Bless all those who are gathered here this evening; bless those who could not be here, and above all, bless those who are no longer here with us including John Turner.

While we remain in the spirit of your wholesome love, Loving God, Bless our church, bless all the inhabitants of this world, and bless this town of Pembroke.

May the writing of this historic document, called the ‘Resolve’ and signed on December 28, 1772, always live on in our hearts, and in the hearts of those who are yet unborn.

Lord, grant us your mercy and love in this moment, and be with us always here and forever.

Amen.

Rev. Miriam Theodore

Minister of First Church in Pembroke
